Hamilton Beach 10 Cup Electric Kettle Stainless Steel Review

Researched electric kettles no end without finding a good buy with good performance. Picked this one up at Costco, trusting in the return policy.

I've had no thought of returning it: Heats fast, and the hot water has no taste or smell. Base is light but stays put--it's no effort at all to set it on the base or lift it off.

Cons:

* The metal outside gets hot. Fortunately, you have no reason to touch it. The handle is large and comfortable and your knuckles are protected from accidental brushes, so the heat of the metal is not likely to matter.

* The trigger on the top of the handle opens the lid. A minor annoyance: this usually flings a few droplets of water about. If you use the trigger to open the lid just after boiling, though, those droplets will be very hot. Fortunately, there's no reason to do this unless you're starting another kettle-full just after finishing one. When you're pouring normally, you'll be pouring through the spout and the top needn't be open.

Krups BW3990 Intuitive Stainless-Steel 1-4/5-Quart Kettle Review

I have waited more than 3 months to review this tea kettle because I have bought so many in the past and written a rave review after just a couple weeks, only to have it break on me shortly thereafter. In fact, I'm still a bit afraid that if I write this review I will jinx my good luck with this tea kettle.

I bought the Krups kettle because of it's name, because I've heard that Krups products are good quality. It was a bit more expensive than other tea kettles out there, but after having bought 3 cheap ones in the past couple years that have broken down on me, I decided it was worth it to spend a bit more.

The design of the Krups kettle is pretty slick and it works very well. I've had problems in the past with the pop-up lid breaking, but this one has a nice smooth design that seems impossible to break. You can see the water levels through the semi-transparent blue and it has a nice swivel base. The water boils quickly, just as one would hope.

The only negative about this tea kettle is that you can only lift it by the handle after it has boiled because the metal part gets very hot. It took some getting used to for me because in the past, with my plastic kettles, I would sometimes pick it up with two hands, one on the handle and one on the kettle itself, so the first few times I used this one I burned myself. However, by now I've gotten used to it and don't think about it at all.

There was a "new kettle taste" in the water that lasted a bit longer than with other kettles, but of course after more than 3 months it is totally gone.

I hope this kettle will last me a long time! I'm very pleased with it and would recommend it.

Proctor Silex K2070 1-Quart Automatic Electric Kettle, White Review

I bought this kettle for the sole purpose of making tea in my dorm room. For that it works great. Just put in some water and flip the switch (a handy light comes on to notify you that the kettle is in use). When the water's done boiling the kettle really does shut itself off. One other nice thing is that the cable that you use to plug this kettle into the outlet actually does detach (AC adapter style). This allows to you to use this as a pitcher, rather than keeping it plugged in all the time. The only real problem (hence the minus one star) is that you have to really make the sure the top is sealed because it doesn't seal tightly by itself. One thing to note, this uses a submerged coil to boil the water meaning that you must boil at least 1.5 cups of water in order for it to work.

We loved the look of this kettle and liked the easy-to-read water gauge. Its power is 1500 Watts, which is higher than many comparable kettles.This is a big advantage, as it means that it comes to the boil more quickly. (It's well worth checking the power of kettles before buying them. Some are painfully slow!)

For us, though, there was, unfortunately, one problem. We use our kettle for all sorts of purposes, but mainly for making traditional British tea and we found that after a day or so, the tea tasted odd. My adult son was the first to point it out. I didn't want to believe it, as I loved the kettle. But in the end I was unable to deny it any longer. The tea definitely didn't taste right, even to me.

I did some searching online and found other comments about a "metallic" taste and suggestions for eliminating it.e.g. Boil up lemon juice in the water, and so on. I did try that and it did diminish the scale that had already started to build up. But for us, it still didn't solve the taste problem.I don't know whether the scale was what caused it. If so, the kettle might work well for those who live in soft water areas, or who use water filters. It might also be fine for you if you aren't a tea drinker, or fussy about the taste of your tea.

I hate to write anything negative in a review, but feel I owe it to fellow tea-drinkers to point out this problem!We have kept the kettle, because it's still useful and fast at boiling water for other purposes.But we no longer use it fortea-making. Sorry.

Capresso H2O Plus Glass Water Kettles Review

This is a beautiful kettle and it boils water very, very quickly.But the reviews about the the foul chemical smell and taste are correct, at least with mine.I chose to ignore the bad reviews regarding the smell and I bought this two weeks ago.As soon as I unpacked it I could detect what the other reviewers were referring to.Every night since I got the kettle, a solution of either vinegar and water, baking soda and water, or lemon juice and water has sat in my kettle, all to no avail. I called Capresso after the first week and the customer service rep acknowledged the problem and suggested the lemon juice.She was very nice and told me to be sure to call back if that didn't work. After a week of trying the lemon juice, I still got the foul smell and taste in the water.I use filtered water that tastes fine before it goes into this kettle.When I called Capresso back, as directed by the first rep with whom I spoke, the rep who answered my call told me that I could send it back and they would replace it with one that "has been tested and doesn't have the smell," but that I would have to pay for the shipping.I didn't feel that I should have to pay for shipping so I asked to speak to his supervisor.The supervisor told me there are no problems with the kettles; he is unaware of any chemical odors and that I could pay for the shipping or return it to where I purchased it and have them replace it.When I explained that I wanted one of the ones his rep told me have been tested and have no odor, he denied all of that as being completely false.He got very nasty and said he could care less that I wasn't happy with my kettle.

I am especially disappointed in Capresso and their customer service.We have been loyal Capresso customers with their coffee products and have never been disappointed.The kettle, however, has been a big let down.I am an avid tea drinker; the chemical taste is that is getting into the water when it is heated is beyond discernible, it is prominent even in cocoa and strong tea.If this is going to matter to you, don't buy it.It is really a shame because it is a beautiful kettle and does work well.But I am tired of dumping out undrinkable cups of tea due to a foul taste and am returning this.

While there is typically little difference between any two electric kettles, this one is at least at the top of the spectrum.

1. Being an extremely convenient home appliance "discovered" by the Europeans decades ago, and later in the USA, the electric kettle always left one concern: compared to its mundane predecessor it was typically made of plastic inside and out. Which could potentially mean various unhealthy substances emanating into the water from the plastic sides, especially at high boiling temperatures. This one is made of stainless steel and doesn't cause any such concerns.
2. The kettle can be rotated on its cordless base, which makes it easier to put it back on the base than some other models.
3. It has a transparent wall segment to measure water level. While this "window" is not located optimally (somewhat shadowed by the handle) and hasn't got a bright floating level marker, this design is sturdier than some others, and is less prone to leaks.
4. Blue back-light that goes on and lights this "window" when the kettle is switched on, is a nice touch. It both attracts attention and simplifies reading the water level.
5. It's easy to open the lid, and the opening is wide to add water with no problems or dripping. (In some models the handle partly covers the lid, making it hard to open and/or add water.)
6. Like in most up-to-date models, the heating spiral is NOT located inside the boiling case, but rather underneath it, which makes the design more relaible, and it is also much easier to wash the kettle inside if need be.
7. Time to boil is reasonable and not worse than average.

Aroma AWK-115S Hot H20 X-Press 1-1/2-Liter Cordless Water Kettle Review

We bought one of these for our home and liked it so much I got another for my office. It is a quick safe way to boil water. It works much better than our teapot on our conventional stove and you can leave the room without worry about all the water boiling out and a possible fire.
It is so efficient that we often use it to heat up water before putting it in a pan on the stove. The pot is light, even when full, and has no aftertaste like I have read some of the plastic ones do.
HOWEVER, we have owned our home pot for less than six months and the 'on' switch broke off. The pot is still usable, but you have to reach in and acitivate it with a fingernail. It is under limited warranty, but that involves mailing it to San Diego at our own cost and sending them a check for $8 to have it returned. Including the time and materials to package it up and then drive to the post office and have it gone for 2-4 weeks doesn't seem worth the effort.
Hopefully we just got a lemon. If this hadn't happened or if the warranty policy wasn't so cumbersome, I would have given this 5 stars. But our other one is working fine, and I don't like it when people who give one star for personal reasons, so I feel 3 stars is a fair rating, one star off for breaking, and one star off for the poor warranty.

Presto 02703 Electric Tea Kettle Review

I've had this kettle for about 8 years and it works just fine. I use it on average 2 to 5 times a day. The whistle isn't quite as loud as it was in it's younger days, hence I've boiled it dry quite a few times, with no ill effects. The only drawbacks are the one quart capacity and dragging the cord around when I fill it. So, if you want an electric kettle for under $20, this is a good buy.
